Due to continued growth, we are actively seeking a Service Manager to join our team! The Service Department Manager is the person responsible for performing everything required for the Service Department to earn a maximum fair profit.
1) Follow all FEC company policies and be fiduciary responsible.
- A Service Department manager’s responsibilities fall into three general categories: resource management, team coordination, and liaison activities.
2) Resource management involves pre-planning, planning, organizing, scheduling and efficiently using:
- Installed equipment
- Construction equipment
- Company money and investments
- Project contract.
3) Team Coordination focuses on planning and scheduling project activities among five groups: field crews, shop crews, vendors, office personnel, and customers. Here communication skills are essential, because coordination relies on everyone involved understanding both the scope of the project and his role in it. Here, too, is the test of a service department manager’s sensitivity, to people and situations, and his ability to adjust to changing circumstances. Team coordination is absolutely crucial to the success of a project, and it is an area where personalities, competition or hostility among the four groups, in addition to unforeseen events, can play havoc if the service department manager is caught unaware.
4) Liaison activities are the area where the project manager is both his company’s ambassador and diplomat to many individuals and groups, including:
- Architects and engineers
- General contractors
- Construction managers
- Other trades
- Suppliers and manufacturers
- Federal, state and local authorities, and
- Media and the public
- Marketing and sales
In this role, the service department manager has to have a clear vision not only of the goals for the customer, but also the company’s goals within the electrical service market. This individual has to be sensitive to the relationships among the various individuals and organizations involved with the customer. They have to know when to push and when to pull, when to stand firm and when to compromise. Like team coordination, the service department manager’s liaison responsibilities require uncanny perception and judgment, as well as exceptional communication skills.
- Must be able to pass FEC background check(s)
- Must be fluent in the English language
- Previous electrical management experience or training
- Previous sales and marketing experience
- Must have a high school diploma, or GED
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work
- Clean and professional appearance
- Must have journeyman’s license or higher
