We are seeking a Resident Engineer (EIRC) with a minimum of 5-10 years’ experience working on transportation projects such as interstate highways, state highways, streets, interchanges, bridges, and streetscapes for projects in Colorado and the surrounding areas.

The candidate must possess a valid Colorado PE license and have recent CDOT contract administration experience. The Resident Engineer position requires the use of supervisory skills and engineering judgment to evaluate project construction in compliance with the plans, specifications, standard plans, and standard specifications. All incoming and outgoing project documentation is channeled through the Resident Engineer, who has signatory authority for all project issuances to the client and contractor.

Candidate must have experience working in a team environment. Candidate must have the ability to direct and supervise field construction activities and staff, office engineering, inspection, materials testing, field contract administration, and to act as liaison with clients/owners, consultants, contractors, design professionals and regulatory agencies.


The principal duties and responsibilities of the Resident Engineer include, but are not limited to:

  • Makes significant and final determinations regarding contract administration
  • Maintains constructive relationships with the contractor and client
  • Project safety –
    • Conduct/attend bi-weekly Safety meetings
    • Oversee and monitor the safety of VC&A personnel
    • Monitor the contractor’s safety program
  • Has knowledge of the pertinent contract documents and references specific to the project
  • Understands, interprets and makes sound engineering determinations regarding contract documents
  • Exercises sound engineering judgment and follows through on determinations made during oversight of all field operations
  • Resolves or facilitates the resolution of all discrepancies or problems with contract documents and issues arising from field operations
  • Creates and maintains open and productive communications among subordinates, sub-consultants, VC&A management, contractors, clients and the public
  • Verifies all contract documentation is generated timely and filed in proper order
  • Receives and generates all contract correspondence
  • Documenting and informing the Project Representative of relevant observations, including the progress of the work, problems that develop, and work proactively in identifying potential problems/issues and solutions


  • Valid Colorado PE License
  • Experience on CDOT or Local Agency Projects
  • Requires a minimum of five (or ten) years directly related experience
  • Bachelor of Science in CM, Civil, or Structural Engineering (preferred)
  • Inspection certifications, and associated training preferred (CDOT, CFLHD)
