Prepare portions of contract proposal estimates for one or more disciplines, including the determination of applicable project plans and specifications.
General knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing required. Ability to calculate mathematical extensions read and understands engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, and cost coding systems.
Education and Experience:
Four year engineering degree or equivalent combinations technical training and/or experience. 2-5 years estimating, controls and/or engineering experience related to similar facility construction. Advanced knowledge of assigned discipline, estimating techniques and cost control, plus ability to interpret computerized cost data and system essential.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
Support other department personnel as required may include preparing estimates in other disciplines.
May review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
Typically works in an office environment. May be required to lift objects up to 20 pounds. Must practice good back posture and ergonomic principles in an office environment. Periodically will be required to conduct site visits to evaluate site conditions for making estimates of work to be done. Must wear personal protective equipment in the field to include safety glasses, boots, and similar. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold environments of a limited basis. May be required to walk over rough terrain and climb slopes. Extended walking, climbing and use of hands and feet will be necessary. May be required to drive a company vehicle and must have a valid driver’s license and approval prior to driving a company owned or leased vehicle.
